The changelog below will highlight what has changed between this new version and the previous version.
Release notes summary
This release contains updates to Legality, Deforestation, and Data Quality tests. For Data Quality, we now catch errors for the TRACES EUDR IS related to the system’s rounding of vertices and geospatial data issues that can cause. Additionally, we removed a test from our Verify Farm methodology related to the distance between a farm plot and its listed aggregator; this test will be redeveloped for our Verify Trace methodology instead.
We are now supporting two additional countries with commercial deforestation maps (DEF04), added four new countries for our test for overlaps with Indigenous People and Local Communities territories (LGL03), and updated public map deforestation (DEF01) for India and Peru, and updated protected areas (LGL01) data for India, Peru, and Indonesia.
Additionally, for Verify API users can access API customers can now get insights into the results and explanations for errors for all tests with the parameter with_details: true in their request. For Portal Customers, these details will soon be available in the Portal UI.
Changelog
Test | Test Version | Changes | Background |
GET04 | v1.02 | This test now rounds vertices to 6 decimals prior to evaluating for duplicate vertices. | Farm plot has duplicate boundary vertices We did additional testing of the EUDR IS system in TRACES and modified our GET04 test to produce Critical risk for any non-consecutive duplicate vertices with the same requirements. EUDR IS rounds all coordinates to 6 decimals, and in some cases this creates invalid polygons due to duplicate vertices or self-intersections. With GET04 on Verify you can catch any of these errors before uploading plots to the EUDR IS. |
GER03 | - | Removed: This test is no longer included in the Verify Farm methodology | Farm plot is far away from the aggregator Previously, this test identified farm plots that were >= 100km from the listed aggregator (first collection point such as cooperative, warehouse, etc) as Critical risk. This is because often in smallholder supply chains like cocoa, these distances are extremely unrealistic for a farm to send their product to. However, this test is being decommissioned from our Verify Farm methodology to be instead placed in our Verify Trace methodology and configured for realities of supply chain logistics in different origins and commodity industries. |
LGL01 | v1.00 | Reference data for the additional countries have been updated:
| Farm plot overlaps with protected area We researched additional local legal contexts and removed protected areas where agriculture permissions exist. |
LGL03 | v1.00 | Additional countries have been added. Supported countries now include (new countries in bold):
| Farm plot overlaps with an indigenous people or local communities territory We expanded our database of Indigenous People and Local Community territories to include Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. Additionally, we’ve enhanced our reference data for Ecuador. In addition to sourcing from deforestation-free farm plots, EUDR also requires that agriculture is sourced legally, and adheres to the principle of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), including as set out in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This includes indigenous and local communities having control and inclusion with decisions about land use, including agriculture. Farm plots overlapping with these areas produce a Medium risk, and we provide guidance on the specific local legal frameworks that are important to ensure your due diligence documentation is covered. |
DEF01 | v1.01 | The public deforestation maps for the following countries have been updated:
| Farm plot overlaps with deforested area Previously the DEF01 reference data used Primary Humid Tropical Forest and Hansen tree cover loss as the input datasets to detect deforestation. This approach has been updated with new public datasets: JRC Global Forest Cover 2020 v2 for the basemap, and Tropical Moist Forest deforestation and Hansen loss year datasets for deforestation. The map provides deforestation up to 2023, and is at 30m resolution. |
DEF04 | v1.00 | Reference data for additional countries have been added for the commercial deforestation maps.
