Release notes summary

This release included two major changes. Firstly, we are adding support for more countries regarding our commercial deforestation maps; the ICE CoT EUDR Deforestation Maps, produced by Space Intelligence for use in the ICE Commodity Traceability platform (ICE CoT). Namely, we are adding Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, and Honduras.

Secondly, we are expanding our legality tests, checking for overlaps with areas of indigenous people and local communities (IPLC). For now, Colombia is the first country that we can support with this new test (LGL03) but new countries will be added soon.

Finally, we added two new tests (GER10 and ATT02), and made smaller improvements to existing tests.

Version

Changes

Background

DEF04 & DEF05

v1.00

The tests remain unchanged, however, we added support for the following countries:

  • Colombia

  • Ecuador

  • Guatemala

  • Nicaragua

  • Peru

  • Honduras

Commercial deforestation maps were first introduced in v1.02. We are continuing to add support for more countries with each release.

LGL03

v1.00

This new test checks for overlaps with IPLC areas.

EUDR states that production of the relevant commodities needs to adhere to relevant legislation of the origin countries, such as land use rights and environmental protections (Article 3). This test aims to assist in detecting issues with compliance with regards to IPLC areas.

GER10

v1.00

This test was newly added.

This test detects geopoints that are located close to known deforestation sites, using commercial ICE CoT EUDR Deforestation Maps, produced by Space Intelligence for use in the ICE Commodity Traceability platform (ICE CoT).

ATT01

v1.02

Some more conditions were added to identify incorrect farmer names.

If a farmer name contains the word “field”, “plot”, “farm”, or it contains 2 or more numbers or symbols, this test will return a medium risk.

ATT02

v1.00

This test was newly added (to the portal).

This test identifies farm plots that can be considered outdated as they have been mapped a considerable amount of time ago.

ATP01

v1.02

The thresholds were changed, making them more lenient.

The new thresholds are aligned with ICE CoT.

Also, previously implemented country exceptions for the USA (soy) were removed.

GET05

v1.01

We added a condition where one “large spike” (i.e., >200m and <3.5 degrees) will lead to a critical risk outcome.

Previously, this test simply counted the number of spikes (>30m and <3.5 degrees), and created risk scores based on this number.

Now, this test will also detect “large” spikes and mark affected farm plots as critical, even with just one large spike.

GER05

v1.01

This test was renamed from “farm overlaps with residential area” to “farm plot overlaps with built-up area”.

The new description more accurately reflects the type of reference data that is being used by this test.

GEC09

v1.00

A bug was fixed: the code calculated the centroid of all relevant farm plots.

Now, the centroid of the centroids of all relevant farm plots is used.

Previously, the results were biassed towards larger farm plots (or polygons in mixed datasets).

Now, the measure is independent of farm size.

LGL01

v1.00

Mexico only: The source dataset for protected areas was changed.

Other Changes

  • A country overview for the country support of DEF01, DEF04, DEF05, GER10, LGL01, LGL02, and LGL03 was added.

  • DEF04 & DEF05 thresholds were clarified in this documentation (but did not change).
